In August 2021, Zhang Liyin surprised fans by releasing a song to the soundtrack for the Chinese TV drama, Once Given, Never Forgotten. The TV show began airing July 26, 2021, and Liyin’s song was teased on Weibo on that date with song previews in the show the day after. The song, called “For Dear You” (给亲爱的你), is a duet between Liyin and artist Reno Wang, and is inserted in the show during scenes with light or happier moments.
The initial first snippet of the song can be heard in episode 3 of the TV drama:
The song was apparently recorded four years ago as Zhang Liyin’s duet partner for the song is artist Reno Wang, who is currently still signed with Show City Times.
The agency also released a drama version sung by the two actors in Once Given, Never Forgotten – Eric Yang and Sophie Zhang. You can watch the music video for this drama version here on YouTube.
After a couple of weeks, “For Dear You” was officially released across all Chinese streaming websites on August 5, 2021. Releases on international streaming channels like Apple Music, Google Music, and Spotify quickly followed on August 6, 2021.
