There’s been a flurry of news and tidbits the past couple of weeks in the fandom. The most surprising part of it all was Zhang Liyin winning an award for her soundtrack on the film Sword and Fire.
On November 9, it was announced on Weibo that “Ashes of Time” won third-place at the 5th Annual VIP Music Chart Awards in the “VIP Hot Original Song” category. This is the first award Liyin has won since leaving SM Entertainment back in 2017.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the award show was moved to a digital format, so Liyin was not able to attend. Instead, she recorded an award acceptance speech and shared it onto Weibo:
The most interesting part of her Weibo update is the final sentence: “See you next year in Macau!”
The award ceremony is usually held in Macau, so we are hoping Liyin posted that particular comment to allude to an eventful and busy 2021 for her career. We have been waiting for a very long time for her to be active again!
Return to social media
Since winning at the VIP Music Chart Awards last week, Liyin has also made a return to her social media channels. She has been relatively inactive on her social media channels the past couple of years, so it’s great to see her posting again.
In the past week, she created an account on Douyin – the original Chinese version of TikTok – and made a return to YouTube. (She previously had her own YouTube channel back in 2016 to 2017, but abruptly closed it after returning to China.) The links to her social media profiles on the aforementioned social media networks have been provided above. Click and follow, fellow Chocolates.
On YouTube, Liyin reposted the self-made music video of her covering Crush’s “Beautiful” from the Goblin drama soundtrack. This was on her old YouTube channel once upon a time. You can watch Liyin’s video cover below:
Her Douyin posts, however, contains a video we’ve yet heard her cover – Jay Chou’s “All The Way North”. It’s a very short video, and it seems like it was filmed a few years ago. You can watch the video clip below:
We hope her return to social media will mean a more active Zhang Liyin in the coming months! Ball is in your court, Beijing S.W. Culture Media!
